Q. I am out of pocket after submitting my claim for medical expenses to Medicare and my private health fund. Does Student Protect provide cover for any ‘gaps’ between my private health insurance and/or any Medicare benefit?

A. ACE is not a registered health fund in Australia and therefore prohibited by legislation from providing cover for certain medical expenses incurred within Australia. Under the Non-Medicare Medical Expenses section of the policy, ACE can pay certain expenses (incurred by students) that are not subject to any and/or part of a Medicare rebate, whether that entitlement to a rebate is claimed or not. See the definition of "Non Medicare Medical Expenses" in the Product Disclosure Statement and Policy Wording for full details of the other conditions which apply to this benefit. We will confirm where any such expenses are covered when you make a claim. However, any medical expenses incurred in Australia that do not have a Medicare component can be submitted to ACE for consideration.
